The Rally Finland organisers have published a 110-strong list of entries for the next round of the World Rally Championship.
Running as a round of both the Production and Junior series, the numbers for the Jyvaskyla-based event are higher, but there is also a strong contingent of private World Rally Car entries at the head of the field. Beyond the usual manufacturer entries -among which there are no surprises - some of the fastest young Scandinavians will do battle on the super-fast Finnish stages.
Norwegians Mads Ostberg (Subaru Impreza WRC) and Andreas Mikkelsen (Ford Focus RS WRC 06) will take on local stars Matti Rantanen (Focus RS WRC 06) and Jukka Hiltunen (Focus RS WRC 03) in the fight to become the best non-manufacturer driver.
Junior driver Martin Prokop will aim to put his dreadful start to the season behind him and, in the absence of series leader Sebastien Ogier, collect a big haul of points in Finland. Ogier will start the event, but he will not take Junior points. Prokop’s biggest rivals for the Finnish victory are likely to be Patrik Sandell (Clio S1600) and Suzuki junior drivers Michal Kosciuszko, who collected his first ever J-WRC win on the last round in Italy, and Jaan Molder.
Eyvind Brynildsen leads the P-WRC runners away in his Mitsubishi, but he will come under intense pressure from Finns Jari Ketomaa (Subaru) and Juho Hanninen (Mitsubishi). There will be another two locals in the hunt for P-WRC points, with wildcard entries Juha Salo and Jussi Valimaki (both in Mitsubishis) certain to shake the order up.
